Court Victory in Hungary
The court granted legal standing to an environmental NGO in a forestry case in Hungary
The Administrative Court of the Budapest Agglomeration Area granted legal standing to an environmental NGO in its judgment last week. The owner of a forested land having a protective function applied for a permit to cut the affected forest. The area would host a department store. The forestry authorities refused legal standing of the NGO opposing the issuing of the permit. These refusals were reversed by the Court now, arguing that the rights and legitimate interests of the NGO are affected by this case.
Earlier, in a procedure initiatied by private persons against the same tree cutting permit, the Court already established the legal standing of individuals.
