Commission appeals after 5-year glyphosate proposal fails
The European Commission failed on Thursday to muster sufficient backing from national delegates for its proposal to renew the EU licence for the herbicide glyphosate for five years, and has called for an appeal hearing as the legal deadline looms.
Despite opposition to a ban, notably from within the large centre-right EPP group, the European Parliament voted by 355 votes to 204 last month in favour of a call to phase out glyphosate completely within five years.
