Polish officials have dismissed as “politically motivated” an injunction from the EU court ordering an immediate halt to logging activity in the Białowieża forest pending the outcome of a court case.

The EU Court of Justice signed the injunction on 27 July, two weeks after the European Commission announced it was taking legal action following the Polish government’s repeated refusal to abide by EU environmental law in the protected Natura 2000 site.
