EU court rules ex-post EIAs can ‘regularise’ projects

Projects built without assessing their environmental impacts can be regularised by undertaking a new evaluation including past impacts, the EU court has ruled.
The EU Court of Justice published on Wednesday its ruling on a case where two biogas plants in the Italian province of Macerata were authorised by the Marche Region in 2012 without an environmental impact assessment (EIA).
